He is always ready to play with other dogs, children or whoever happens to be in his realm. He is the star of the neighbourhood and everywhere he goes. He is very comfortable in both city and rural environments. In the summer, he likes to swim and walk around in the water to keep cool and in the winter he enjoys being outdoors and playing in the snow. CONFORMATION Walter is over three years old, stands 34” at the shoulder and weighs 257 lbs, has massive bone structure and a very deep chest. He is a multi champion and has received his Canadian Championship title in three shows, undefeated and has been getting group placements with very limited showing. He earned his American championship in four US shows taking Winner’s Dog at every show and finishing undefeated with four majors, taking breed over several specials. For his international title, he competed in Oregon, USA during a working breed specialty weekend, and was evaluated by three AKC judges and got his championship with a Group 1 win. Once again, Walter was undefeated. Walter finished # 2 Male Mastiff in Canada within 6 months of dog shows. TEMPERAMENT Walter has his Canine Good Neighbour (CGN), Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Therapy Dogs International (TDInc.) certifications. He has also been screening by the BC Pets& Friends and approved without doubt of his temperament.
His wonderful temperament can be best seen at: BEHAVIOUR Despite his gigantic size, Walter has always exhibited appropriate and sensitive behaviour, responding to the clues provided to him by people and other dogs. He shares his toys, his food and bones with other dogs. When playing with smaller dogs, Walter actually tries to reduce his size by lying down or squatting to make the play more equal. In one-on-one interactions with people, he is comfortable with both people he knows and strangers getting up close and personal, allowing them to touch his huge feet, touch his face to look at his teeth and even removing toys or bones from his mouth, all the while showing NO negative behaviour. Either in our back yard or outside in parks, Walter has never been a reactive dog, never startled, hardly barks and has never shown aggressive behaviour. He does not chase or respond to prey-driven stimuli such as squirrels, cats, bouncing squeaky toys or running children. Once among children, he shows no signs of flinching despite high pitched yells, screams of delight and children pulling on his ears or tail; his good nature always prevails. He also has table manners and will not try to reach or snatch at any food even if within reach of his massive and tall head. WORK He is the perfect therapy dog and enjoys working at various hospitals/centres in our community. Walter seems to know which patients would like him to visit but waits for them to invite him over. His favourite job is though B.C. Pets & Friends, visiting group homes at the North Shore ConneXions, an organization that works with the mentally challenged citizens in our community. On a weekly basis, we bring Walter and his sister Hilda (17 month old female English Mastiff) to two group homes in North Vancouver and spend an hour at each home. These visitations provide friendship and companionship to the residents of these homes and we’ve been told that the residents very muck look forward to the visits. Walter is also a member of the North Shore Paws-4-Reading team and work as a R.E.A.D. dog helping kids with learning disabilities at the Highlands Elementary School in North Vancouver. At this job he is such a quiet gentle giant, loving, caring and extremely fun to be around. Kids love to read to him, as he is a very good listener. Walter also always attends civic holiday ceremonies, Canada Day parades, Remembrance Day ceremonies and block parties in our neighbourhood. We have kids coming into our home to visit and play with him. Also, quite few dogs come to play with our dogs in a regular basis. The more opportunities we have to socialize Walter and bring some happiness to someone at the same time, the better for everybody. In summary, Walter is a healthy proven stud with such conformation and personality that would make any female of merit very happy with his genes. We are very proud of our big boy! He is available at stud to approved/health tested bitches. Fresh and frozen semen are available.
