Vixen has a wonderful temperament, mellow, friendly, and easily trained.
With age, since about 2 years of age, she has become tentative and somewhat shy,
no longer willing to run up to strangers as she once did.
This change in temperament could be due to
a lack of socialization as she got older, hormonal changes and/or genetics.
She loves to play soccer with a boomer ball, retrieve frisbees,
and she swims like an otter.
Vixen's sire and dam are both OFA good, OFEL, CERF normal-normal,
and vWD and thyroid normal. Her grandsire on her dam's side,
Ch. Willowledge Brett, has a wonderful temperament
and is very typey and has a number of
problems, including mild hip dysplasia, DJD grade II in both elbows,
and geographic retinal dysplasia. Two of Vixen's dam's sisters had
ununited anconeal processes which required surgery.
Vixen's elbows were x-rayed at 6, 7, 8
and 15 months. Her anconeal process was ununited
at 6, 7 and 8 months. The board certified radiologist who examined
Vixen's elbow x-rays at 7 months recommended surgery, but since she
was not limping and OFA recommended waiting they were not operated on
and they are fine now! :-)
She is spayed now because of the geographic retinal dysplasia in
her eyes. It does not appear to bother her, but it probably does
effect her vision, causing multiple small blind spots.
