Ianto is very easy going, loves cold weather and snow,
and loves swimming. His favorite summer activity is chasing
my husband or a boomer ball in our swimming pool.
Ianto was diagnosed with panosteitis
at five months of age and limped on and off for several months.
He also had recurring staph infections on his back and was tested
for thyroid and was low normal. He was put on siloxine and has
not had a staph infection since. He does tend to get hot spots in
the spring when he sheds. His hips were x-rayed at four months
and they were subluxated, so we swam him all summer. At one year
he was re-x-rayed and his hips looked good to the local orthopedic
specialist. I finally had his hips re-x-rayed for OFA at 4 years
of age and they came back good. I had them x-rayed because I
suspected he might be dysplastic because his rear shakes when he
leans forward. If he was dysplastic I wanted to help with the
genetic research being done at
Michigan University.
Ianto started limping the end of February 1998, within a few weeks he
was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, bone cancer.
We tried treating him
holisticly with Acemannan, shark cartillage, diet, vitamins and herbs
to boost his immune system. Unfortunately, the cancer progressed to
quickly and became so enlarged on his leg that it cut off
circulation to his foot. We did consider removing his leg, but because
of his size and weak rear we decided that it would not be a reasonable
solution in Ianto's case. With heavy hearts we said good bye to him
April 20th 1998.
