Shera loves to fetch - sticks, balls, whatever. Her favorite
is leaping into our swimming pool to retrieve balls. She is an
intelligent, athletic dog. She has been shown and did get both
majors, but was not finished because of her OCD. Shera did not
like showing and is not trustworthy when left alone with other
dogs, especially bitches. I consider her attitude toward
other dogs to be her worst fault.
Shera had OCD in one shoulder which
required surgery at the age of two years. She recovered very
quickly from her surgery and was sound until 8 years when she
developed some arthritis which bothers her occassionally.
She has had few health problems since her youth, until recently,
Shera bloated shortly after her 12th birthday and had emergency
surgery and gastroplexy (her stomach was tacked down to help
prevent a reoccurence). Shera recovered quickly from the
surgery - my vets were amazed at the healthy appearance of
her organs and her rapid recovery. Unfortunately, Shera developed
cancer not long after recovering from her surgery for bloat.
Evidently it started in her bladder and was widely spread by the
time we discovered it.
Shera had one litter of three pups before she was spayed.
Their sire, Remo, was a National Specialty and Best In Show winner.
Remo was recently put down because of bladder cancer
at the age of 9 years.
Two of the pups are females, Bronwyn and
Prima Donna,
and a male, Duncan.
Shera's dam, Ingot, died of bloat at the age of 7 1/2 when
she was left at a boarding kennel for the weekend. Her sire,
Sherman, had a stroke at 7 1/2, but with excellent care from
his owner lived until 10.
